THE GREAT EIGHT
The eight best 18 to 23 year old butchers from across the UK will pit their skills and show their talent at Foodex at the Birmingham NEC on Tuesday 19th of April in what promises to be the most exciting UK butchery craft skills competition ever!
Competing for the title of Premier Young Butcher 2016 will be 23 year old level 3 Meat and Processing apprentice with Scottish Training ERIN CONROY, working at FALLENICH FARM SHOP in Stirling, Scotland. She will be joined by Level 3 Food Industry Skills apprentice 20 year old JAMES GRACEY who works at QUAYLES FINE FOODS in Dromore, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Also from Northern Ireland is 20 year old Butchery World Skills Bronze Medallist DYLAN GILLESPIE working for Kieran Meehan at CLOGHER VALLEY MEATS, County Tyrone. Who along with the others will challenge 18 year old level 2 Meat Ipswich apprentice JAMES HENSHAW from TAYLORS FARM SHOP in Lathom, Lancashire who is following in the footsteps of ‘stable mates’, 2013 finalist Benjamin Peel and 2015 Premier Young Butcher current champion Lucy Crawshaw and looking to continue the farm shop’s success.
Also from Scotland and working at FALLENICH FARM SHOP, Stirling is Scottish Training 21 year old level 3 Meat and Poultry apprentice STUART RANKIN. While from Warwickshire will be 18 year old Stafford College catering student HARRY SMITH who works for AUBREY ALLEN in Leamington Spa.
Meat Trades Journal 2015 Butcher Shop of the Year, SIMPSONS BUTCHERS in Heckington, Norfolk is where 20 year old Meat Ipswich level 3 apprentice and Butcher Shop of the Year 2015 Young Butcher finalist, JAMES TAYLOR does his day job. He will be joining fellow level 3 Meat Ipswich apprentice and ‘other’ girl in the competition, 21 year old ELSIE YARDLEY from PRIORS HALL FARM near Dunmow in Essex.
The Premier Young Butcher Competition 2016 organised by the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders is being hosted by William Reed Media and sponsored by AHDB Beef & Lamb, AHDB Pork, Cambrian Training, Institute of Meat, RAPS UK, Scotch Butchers Club, Weddel Swift and the Worshipful Company of Butchers.
