Siltbuster Process Solutions (SPS) Limited appointed to support Nestlé’s environmental plans in Scotland
Leading specialist in effluent and water treatment, Siltbuster Process Solutions (SPS) Limited, has won a contract to supply and install a D50 packaged lamella DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) plant with pipe flocculator and associated chemical dosing equipment to Nestlé UK & Ireland for its effluent facility at its site in Girvan, Ayrshire.
Girvan factory manufactures chocolate crumb, a key ingredient in chocolate manufacture. Nestlé UK is currently undertaking a programme of investment and capital works to reduce energy and water consumption.
SPS has been working closely with Nestlé’s team over the last 18 months, providing a DAF plant on hire to assess its capability and suitability for load reduction for treatment of Girvan factory effluent.
The SPS D50 unit uses established solid and liquid separation technology to generate ‘whitewater’ by dissolving air under pressure and then releasing the pressure to form microfine air bubbles.
Solids and other particulates attach preferentially to the air bubbles and rise to the surface of the DAF unit where they are collected, thickened and removed by a motorised scraper. The treated water can then be reused or discharged offsite as necessary, while the collected material can be disposed of via recycling routes. This process ensures that companies meet discharge consent compliance and incur reduced disposal charges.
Kevin Adams, technical manager, Nestlé UK & Ireland, comments: “This project is part of a wider programme to reduce water consumption at the factory. Its success enables other elements of the project to move forward. I am particularly pleased that, with a very small implementation window of two weeks, the plant was installed and commissioned in the required time, and that the results we are getting are consistently in line with our expectations.”
