Second helping of Food Manufacturing Excellence after showcase sells out
Training company Quaestus, part of the National Skills Academy for Food & Drink, is to following up on demand for its recently completed Food Manufacturing Excellence Taster Day with a new FME event on 24th April 2012.
Interest the payback potential of FME was such that the taster event held in Devon quickly sold out. Delegates included representatives of businesses such as Tulip Ltd, Riverford Farm Shops and Cricketer Farm alongside vocational training representatives from Reaseheath College, the award-winning centre for dairy training.
The taster day was designed to demonstrate how food and drink manufacturing firms can utilise lean improvement techniques to drive extra profitability through effective leadership and teamwork - linking bespoke training and development inititiatives to new flagship FME qualifications.
“We’re committed to working together with delegates, their teams and their company leadership groups to deliver a healthy return on investments in Food Manufacturing Excellence within just 12 months of embarking on the positive culture change it generates, said Quaestus senior partner Steven Burch, a former food industry technical, production and commercial manager.
“Payback is achievable with or without the qualification because the focus of Food Manufacturing Excellence is on pinpointing winnable improvement projects that have direct bottom line benefits and fostering a culture that ensures they are delivered,” said Mr Burch.
Speakers at the FME event included ex-Swizzels Matlow training manager Tony Salt and former pharmaceuticals supply chain director Godfrey Tucker who demonstrated the practical nature of FME thinking.
Delegates praised the straight-talking nature of the FME showcase and the advice given on how to ensure the benefits of FME in reducing costs and improving efficiency were not lost in “management speak”.

“I’ve recognised that we need to keep clear of the jargon,” said one delegate. “We’ve got to get everyone in the business behind what we are doing, not just the management team or the lean team.”
