Butchery apprentices from across the UK are applying to take part in the 2016 Premier Young Butcher Competition hosted by William Reed Business Media at Foodex in the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC) between the 18th and 20th April next year.

Following the success of the competition in Stoneleigh last June when seven finalists fought for fourteen trophies and the title of Premier Young Butcher 2015. The National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) is signing up talented 18-23 year old apprentice butchers to compete producing and displaying innovative Ready to Eat, Stuffed Roast, Seam Butchery, Barbecue and Kitchen Ready products.

Last year’s winner Lucy Crawshaw of Taylors Farm Shop in Lathom Lancashire, already a hit at London’s ‘MEATOPIA’ last September, now goes forward with Joe Smith of Lishman’s of Ilkley to start training for the International Young Butcher Competition in Frankfurt next May.
NFMFT President and London butcher Jim Sperring says “competing in Premier Young Butcher is a great opportunity and can be a life changing experience for any apprentice setting out on a career in butchery today”!

Premier Young Butcher 2016 is open to ALL 18-23 year old butchery apprentices throughout the UK and any apprentice or employer believing they have an apprentice with the necessary craft skills and good working practices should contact roger@nfmft.co.uk or go to www.nfmft.co.uk for information.

Premier Young Butcher 2016 organised by the NFMFT and hosted by William Reed Business Media is being sponsored by AHDB Beef & Lamb, AHDB Pork, Cambrian Training, Institute of Meat, Quality Meat Scotland, RAPS (UK), Weddel Swift and the Worshipful Company of Butchers.
